SD, The Original HD

Higher resolutions are only beneficial when the media being displayed contains that information. DVDs allow for just under 500 lines of horizontal resolution, which is double that of standard VHS. Even the latest and greatest of the analog era only get to 400 lines, so there is no benefit to going beyond SD when transferring your old tapes to files or discs. And our modern players and displays are all backwards compatible so you can play the SD files and DVDs (which will work in a Blu-Ray player) the way they were meant to be seen, with every detail intact.
